A few weeks ago we were lucky enough to snag a three day, two night reservation for a yurt at Lost Lake Resort and I’m so glad we did because Lost Lake is truly magical. We stopped by a grocery store before heading out to stock up on food and beer and enjoyed the incredibly scenic drive through the Columbia River Gorge, down through Hood River and into the mountains. We went mid-June and the rhododendron were in full bloom which I think contributed to the overall magical feeling. Our yurt was in a small, quiet campground and had a big picnic bench and a small fire pit. The entire campground was surrounded by massive (blooming) rhododendrons so we definitely felt secluded in our own area. There’s also a spigot for fresh water and a pit toilet. The yurts are not drive up sites, but the walk is very short and they have wagons you can use to transport your gear. Inside the yurt there were two sets of bunk beds with some thin pads on the wood; I would recommend bringing your own sleeping bags and sleeping pads if you want to be comfortable. There was also a wood burning stove in the yurt to keep you warm on a cold night. It didn’t get so cold that we needed a wood stove, but were were in puffy jackets and leggings around the fire at night even in mid-June. During the day we spent our time canoeing and fishing on the lake (42 rainbow trout were caught!) as well as relaxing in the day use lake-side areas. It was so, so relaxing and I highly recommend spending a few days here if you’re able to snag a spot! Also, the resort has a camp store where you can buy everything from beer and food to souvenirs. They also have a little restaurant where you can get ice cream or a burger, but they weren’t open while we were there due to COVID.
