Michael and I decided to stay in Oregon for Thanksgiving this year and do our very first Thanksgiving alone together. We knew we wanted to get outside in the morning and we decided to head up to Wy’east to snowshoe the White River since it had just dumped a few feet of snow on the mountain. The snow was so fluffy that even with snowshoes on we still sank deep into the snow the entire way up the trail. We didn’t make it as far as we had wanted because with the snow being so fluffy, the hiking was extremely slow going and we were finding ourselves sinking down and tripping over fallen trees and rocks under the snow, which has never happened to us before while snowshoeing! Also, the view of the mountain was unfortunately obstructed for the duration of our excursion, but, we did get to see the gleaming white peak on our way to and from the mountain! The White River is also a fantastic destination to try out snow camping, which is something that we want to try this winter. For more information on the hike go here.
