While staying in Olympic National Park, we were lucky enough to snag one of these first-come-first-serve campgrounds in the Hoh Rainforest beside the Hoh River. This was spot A14 and we could hear the rush of the glacier river (constantly) with the high pitch call of elk periodically throughout the day and night. In front of the big tree trunk on the left was a picnic table and fire ring where we spent our time reading and chatting at night. From behind the tent there is a short path down to the edge of the river where we also spent a lot of time relaxing. I think we paid $20 a night for our spot and it’s all first-come-first-serve, year round. We got lucky with no rain so we slept without our rainfly and got to fall asleep watching the Milky Way.
I tried my hardest to not edit the colors in this picture, only adjusting the brightness and slightly color correcting the scene. It was truly a magical mossy, fern covered slice of green heaven.
