Trail Running Saddle Mountain, Oregon
Distance: 6 miles out and back
Elevation Gain: 1,800 feet
Solitude: heavily trafficked
Dogs allowed: yes on leash
From the parking area, head straight up on the trail (there will be a wooden kiosk). The trail will take off uphill and within a mile you will start to have some really beautiful views of the surrounding valley. As you can see from my pictures, we were socked in by thick PNW fog rolling off the Pacific, but we still got glimpses of the surrounding landscape. Also, wildflowers of all colors peppered the landscape on our climb up. On a clear day you can see from Mount St. Helens to the ocean, however the views are usually obstructed from the Pacific fog. I will say this run felt hard, but I think it’s because we were running up the mountain and not hiking. I would not recommend this hike to a first time hiker, only because the elevation gain is pretty high.
