Cannon Beach has been at the top of our list of places to check out in Oregon and we knew we had to go as soon as possible. We checked the weather and saw that at 3:00pm it was already a crisp 65 degrees so we grabbed some extra sweaters and thick socks and began our hour and a half drive out to Cannon Beach. The drive out to the coast is scenic to say the least; towering pine trees line both sides of the winding highway and every once in awhile there's a break in the trees and you can see the mountains surrounding you. Upon arriving in the little town of Cannon Beach we were immediately overwhelmed by the amount of people and cars everywhere. We found a little street off the beaten path to park and made our way down to the beach. The monolith, better know as Haystack Rock, proudly protrudes out of the ocean as seagulls swarm it's cliffs. The happiness of everyone on the beach is contagious and we were immediately all smiles in the warm sun with a cold Pacific wind whipping around us. Families were everywhere taking pictures and enjoying the view while packing up or getting settled in for the sunset. We got to Cannon Beach around 6pm and had a few hours to burn until sunset so we decided to grab a beer and dinner on the beach. The food was way overpriced, but good, and we chatted while watching the ocean and catching a tiny buzz. We made our way out onto the sand while most other people were leaving around walked down past Hay Rock to find a spot to watch the sunset. There were tons of photographers and even a couple taking engagement photos. As the sun dipped lower and lower the temperature got colder and colder and a thick fog started to roll across the ocean and into the surrounding mountains. Pretty soon it became clear that there would be no sunset and when the sun dipped below the thick cloud bank on the horizon we gathered up our things to leave. As we were walking back to the car, little bonfires began to pop up everywhere along the beach and you could hear the sounds of laughter and music drifting over the waves. It was such a fun beach and the vibes made us want to never leave. We can't wait to go back and hopefully take some friends with us next time we go!
