Skiing Trip to Stowe, Vermont (and Boston)
Hi everyone! We are back from a long weekend trip from Stowe, Vermont. Last year I had really gotten it in my head that I wanted to do a double-date kind of trip with Michael's best friend Ian and his girlfriend Emily and I thought doing a ski trip would be just the thing! We wanted to do something easy-ish so we settled on Stowe, Vermont for a number of reasons. First, the flights round trip from both Richmond and DC to Boston were around $123-$150 and Boston was a three hour drive from Stowe which was easy. Also, Stowe Mountain Resort is one of the highest rated ski resorts on the east coast. But most importantly, Stowe Mountain Resort is in the same town as The Alchemist Brewery... If you're into craft beer you've heard of Heady Topper and this is exactly where you can get it at the source! But more on that later...
Michael and I flew into Boston early Friday morning and spent the day in the city. We went to Trillium Brewery, The Institute of Contemporary Art, Pavement Coffeehouse (rated one of the top 50 coffee houses in the United States) and Sam LaGrassa's which had the BEST SANDWICHES EVERRRR. We finished our day by watching the sunset over the city skyline across the harbor at Piers Park before heading back to the airport to grab Ian and Emily.
We stayed about 10 minutes away from Stowe Mountain Resort in the best location ever. It was right next to the Alchemist Brewery, a 5 second walk to PK Coffee Shop, within walking distance to multiple restaurants, right above a liquor/beer store, within a 2-5 minute driving distance of everything else you could possibly need/want in Stowe and 8-10 minutes (depending on traffic) to Stowe Mountain. It was seriously the greatest location with really easy parking. It was two bedrooms and each bedroom had a queen sized bed so it was perfect for two couples!
We spent Saturday and Sunday at Stowe Mountain snowboarding and skiing. Saturday we got a bit of late start because we had to get our passes for the lifts and a few rental items. But Sunday we woke up to a fresh blanket of snow! After a few hours the snow let up and the sky turned blue but the most beautiful clouds were hanging around the tops of the mountains all the way until sunset. Around sunset the clouds around the tops of the mountains lit up with some beautiful color and it almost looked like a forest fire. We hung out at night, tried some local restaurants and drank beer from both the Alchemist and Trillium. It was such a fun trip, my only regret was that it wasn't longer!
