Skógafoss

Quite possibly the dorkiest picture we've ever taken, and I love it.

Skógafoss is magnificent. It's no wonder this waterfall is the poster child when it comes to advertising Iceland's tourism. The waterfall is perfect, powerful and beautiful. But also swarming with tourists (I am fully aware we were also tourists). We knew this was going to be a crowded waterfall so we only stayed for a few minutes, you at least have to see it if you go to Iceland, even if you just stop by for a picture and a hot coffee!

Skógafoss is easy to get to. It's a left turn off of the Ring Road headed towards Vik and away from Reykjavik. You drive down to a parking area that also has a restaurant, souvenir shop and some lodging. From the parking area it's just a couple steps until you're at the base of this massive waterfall. You can also hike up around the waterfall to the right (you will see a staircase) to a viewing platform right above the waterfall. A ton of people were up on the platform and transcending/ascending the steps so we opted to stay at the base of the falls. We got SUPER close to the base of the falls in the mist but I mostly took videos at this waterfall (hence the sparse amount of pictures). This waterfall is definitely worth stopping at but by no means the best waterfall we saw!
