Hey From Iceland! Part Dos
Hi Everybody! We are currently in route back home from the most amazing vacation to Iceland! Except, vacation might not be the best word for our trip because it was anything but relaxing. The whole time we were go, go, go. Waking up at 7:00am every day, driving all around the island (we drove 1,840 miles!) hiking, exploring, stopping to eat, etc. We just never stopped. But the trip was a blast! We packed in tons of waterfalls, explored some cool beaches, saw some amazing glaciers, got to see the most amazing display of Northern Lights (!!!), snorkeled in the Silfra Fissure (between the North American and European tectonic plates), went on a guided fly fishing trip and so much more! Here are a few more shots from the second half of our trip!
Everything We Did:
Waterfalls: Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, Foss á Síðu, Systrafoss, Svartifoss, Magnúsarfoss (Skaftafell Nature Perserve), Glanni Waterfall, Hraunfossar, Waterfall on Bildudalsvegur, Dynjandi, Kirkjufellsfoss, Glymur, Gullfoss,
Glaciers: Sólheimajökull, Jökulsárlón (Glacier Lagoon), Vatnajökull, Snæfellsjökull
Beaches: Vik, Djupalonssandur, Skarðsvík
Towns we stayed in: Vik, Bíldudalur, Búðardalur (near this town), and Reykjavík
Other Adventures: We hiked around Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon, watched the Northern Lights, explored Snæfellsjökull National Park, saw Strokkur Geysir explode multiple times, snorkeled in the Silfra Fissure (Þingvellir National Park) and we went Fly Fishing on a tributary of the Ölfusá River.
I'm going to do another post soon with helpful tips while traveling in Iceland (things we learned basically), why traveling in September is such a good idea and some more thoughts on what I thought of the island :)
