A little while ago I decided to take a little mid-week vacation and head down to Ocracoke to visit one of my best friends from high school. When I arrived, Annie suggested getting a beach pass for the Jeep and it was SO MUCH FUN. I had yet to take the Jeep "off roading" because she's still so new and I cringe every time she even goes over a pothole. But, the beach sounded like too much fun to pass up so we deflated the tires and headed out on the sand. The touristy season had pretty much wrapped up so the beach was primarily lined with trucks and fisherman enjoying tourist-less beach. Driving on the sand is a blast but also kinda strange. It almost feels like you're sliding the entire time but you're really not. My favorite part about driving on the beach was actually the access road that led you out to the beach. It was a pretty long stretch of nothing but a flat, packed down sand surrounded by miles of sea grass. It was really pretty (and of course I didn't get a picture). Other than driving out on the sand, we visited little restaurants, a quirky little coffee shop (my favorite place), the lighthouse, and we took a walk to watch the sunset. It was a fun little trip!

Beaches are wonderful but if I had to choose between mountains and the beach forever, I'd definitely choose the mountains... but that's not to say I don't enjoy a beach vacation! This weekend Michael and I are headed south to hike a trail thats been on my radar for awhile because of it's close proximity to a good trout fishing river that Michael can fly fish in. Currently the weather is predicting rain (which Michael will be happy about) but I would seriously love a nice cool sunny day. Fingers crossed!
