Potomac Wayside Waterfall

The weather said it was going to be a high of 77 so my friend and I thought it would be a beautiful day to visit a local waterfall. Little did we realize, 77 is so much colder than either of us remembered (spring is very far in the past). Regardless, the waterfall was beautiful. Potomac Wayside is the ending location for tubing parties coming down the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers. As tubers walk up the path from the landing spot, they walk by this waterfall which is a fun place to cool down after a long day of tubing.

The rocks are SUPER slippery. I never slip around when I'm wearing my Tevas but I was slipping all over the place climbing around on this waterfall.

The combination of cold water with cool 70 degree air was a little to chilly for us, so we ended up walking down to the river and laying out on the warm rocks for awhile. That ended abruptly when the sun went behind a patch of clouds and the temperature felt like it dropped 10 degrees in a split second.

I was super disappointed to see a huge pile of trash down by the river. I'm all for having a good time but my god people, just carry your trash up the hill and throw it away! Pack in what you pack out and make the environment a cleaner and safer place for the rest of us. As far as I'm concerned... trashy people leave trash in their paths.

Other than that little patch of trash... Harpers Ferry is a great area to adventure in and I'm so lucky it's only 15 minutes away from home. There's an adventure park (find information here) where you can zip line, as well as rent canoes, kayaks, and inner-tubes. There's the historical town of Harpers Ferry where you can find tons of little shops, restaurants, and historical museums/houses. In addition, there are a few hiking trails that have beautiful views of both the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers and Harpers Ferry. These hikes include, Maryland Heights (one of my favorites), Loudoun Heights, and Weaverton Cliffs. And of course you could just park and spend a day down at the river.

August is tomorrow! My favorite month because it's my birthday month :)

Get outdoors!
