Hiking Weverton Cliffs

Happy 2015!!! I can't believe 2014 is already over. It wasn't the greatest of years, but it also wasn't the worst. It just kinda happened. I did more hiking in 2014 than I have in my whole life and I definitely reached my goal of doing at least two hikes every month. I also lost 18lbs and I'm now in the best shape I have ever been in. So at least those goals were reached :) To start off the new year my sister and I did a short hike up to Weverton Cliff. This hike is usually a 9 mile out and back hike starting in Harpers Ferry but we cut it short and only did three miles. We parked at the bottom of the mountain and did the mile and a half hike up. It's steep. I mean... steeeeeeppppppp. You're basically walking straight up a hill the whole time and just 2 minutes into the hike I was sweating and had to break for a quick drink of water. To get an idea of the elevation profile visit here. The view was great though! It's a perfect scenic outlook of the river and a little mountain rising up on the other side. Although the day was cloudy, it was still really beautiful. I also loved that the cliffs are littered with pines so the trees aren't all dead and brown.  My goals for this year are to go on some more weekend backpacking trips, visit at least one other state(and check out one of their state parks), and to start trail running (I already have a feeling I'm not going to like it, ha!).   Hope everyone had an amazing New Years! Make a resolution to get outdoors!
